Richard Briers celebrates Newcastle's Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal in Newcastle is celebrating 175 years since its opening in 1837.

A recent multi-million pound makeover has restored its Victorian splendour.

Inside Out follows the restoration project - and hears from performers including actor Richard Briers who was the guest of honour at the reopening.

He describes his memories of Tyneside's premier theatre in productions including Shakespeare's Richard III and King Lear.

Inside Out: Theatre Royal is on Wednesday, 4 January on BBC One in the North East and Cumbria at 19:30 GMT and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days afterwards.
