Edward, Prince of Wales surfed Hawaii wave in 1920

An autographed picture of Edward, Prince of Wales, surfing in Hawaii in 1920 is one of the highlights of a new exhibition at the Museum of British Surfing in Devon.

The 26-year-old prince, later to become King Edward VIII before abdicating to marry American Wallis Simpson, is shown surfing feet together.

He was being given surfing lessons at Waikiki beach during a visit to the Pacific islands.

The Museum of British Surfing in Braunton features surfboards and memorabilia tracing more than 200 years of national involvement with the sport.
