Kent to light 182 beacons for the Diamond Jubilee

Kent is to light more beacons for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee than any other county, according to the event's organisers.

There have been 182 applications for beacons in Kent, the deadline for which was 30 April.

In East Sussex 57 registrations have been made, one of which is for Pevensey where William The Conqueror landed in 1066.

A chain of over 4,000 beacons will be lit across the UK on the night of 4 June as part of four days of celebrations of the Queen's 60-year reign.
