Veterans start gig championship

The World Pilot Gig Championship has started in the Isles of Scilly.

The annual event nearly doubles the population of the islands and contributes thousands of pounds to the local economy.

More than 100 teams, including some from abroad, have registered for the championship.

Racing, which will continue over the weekend, began on Friday with teams of "veterans" (over 40s) and "super-veterans" (over 50s).

Both the men's and women's races were won by teams from Cornwall.
