East Midlands' RAF Bomber Command role in World War II

A national memorial will be unveiled to remember the people who served with RAF Bomber Command in World War II.

Bomber Command's role was to attack Germany's air bases, troops, shipping and industrial complexes connected to the war effort.

The East Midlands played an important part in operations due to it being in range of Germany, and its flat and agricultural land.

By the end of the conflict the region was home to 35 bomber stations.
