A new children's unit at North Devon District Hospital has been officially opened by former England rugby star Matt Dawson.

The facility in Barnstaple provides medical care for newborns and children up to the age of 18.

Managers said it would deal with about 1,600 newborn babies and up to 3,000 children a year.
