Robot surgeon first for hospital

A robot "surgeon" has removed a cancer patient's prostate for the first time at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.

Da Vinci, the £2m robot, is operated remotely by a surgeon a few feet away who manipulates the cutting blades via a high definition microscope.

Da Vinci's hands can get into smaller spaces than human hands, reducing complications and speeding up recovery times.
