London's vulnerable children sent to Kent care homes

BBC Inside Out has found children in care from London are being sent to specialist care and foster homes up to 80 miles away in Kent.

There are around 1,200 children sent from other local authority areas to Kent, with London sending the greatest number.

Every local authority has a duty to keep children in care as close to home as possible, but London boroughs say they simply do not have enough places to look after vulnerable children.

In Kent caring for other people's children has put strains on the community whilst it can also be a stressful experience for the children.

The government has commissioned a special report into the placing of children in care away from their home area which is expected to publish its findings in January 2013.

BBC Inside Out South East and London is broadcast on Monday, 19 November on BBC One at 19:30 GMT and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
