First Great Western retains franchise as contest scrapped

First Great Western is to continue operating trains between London and south Wales after the government extended its contract by another six months.

Its contract had been due to finish in April.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin wants to negotiate an interim franchise of at least two years with operator FirstGroup.
