Birmingham memorial to fallen police officers unveiled

A memorial to fallen West Midlands Police officers has been officially unveiled.

A total of 89 officers have died while on duty in Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry since 1822.

PC Kerry Blakeman, whose father died while serving as a police officer, said: "I'm really grateful that my father will be remembered, so every time I walk into reception I can look and see Dad's name there."

Chief Constable Chris Simms said the memorial is a reminder of "the sacrifice that sits at the heart of policing".
