Jaguar Land Rover jobs boost welcomed

Jaguar Land Rover has said a new engine plant on the Staffordshire-Wolverhampton border will lead to 700 more jobs than originally announced.

The company said it would be investing an extra £150m to double the size of its new factory at the i54 business park, which is expected to start production in 2015.

It takes the total number of jobs to 1,400.

People in the Black Country welcomed the news and said the area had been badly hit by a decline in manufacturing in recent years.

Many of them told BBC Midlands Today's Joanne Writtle they expected tough competition for the jobs, with high levels of unemployment in the area.
