South Downs National Park economic impact revealed

The South Downs National Park generates £464m each year in visitor spending, a new survey has revealed.

The downs, which stretch for 100 miles from Winchester, in Hampshire, to Beachy Head, in East Sussex, were designated a national park in 2009.

The park authority said, although local business has benefited, more accommodation is needed to encourage visitors to stay for longer.

The study found visitor spending supported 8,200 local jobs.
