Hull families see food banks as a lifeline

Film-maker Sean McAllister returns home to Hull to meet his former colleagues from the city's pea factory.

On his personal journey he discovers the impact of low wages and the casual jobs market.

He also finds that food banks are providing a lifeline for a growing number of families.

The charity Real Aid was set up to help the poor in Africa. After the floods in 2007, it saw a growing need locally and redirected its efforts to Hull.

The charity uses a team of volunteers to package and send food parcels to community centres around the city.

Living with Poverty: Peas and Pay Packets is broadcast on Wednesday, 22 May at 23:05 BST on BBC One Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
