Rise in demand for housing cost help in the South

There has been a big rise in the number of people applying to councils in the South for emergency help with housing costs, according to figures obtained by the BBC.

The increase follows the changes to the benefits system where social tenants lose money if they have a spare room.

The government has given extra money to ease the transition but there is already concern the funding will run out before the end of the year.
