Cancer family's diagnosis warning

The parents of a girl who has been diagnosed with leukaemia have warned other families to be aware of the risks of misdiagnosis after doctors said their child had a chest infection.

Danny and Zoe Stanton first took two-year-old Sofia to the doctor after she started to cough and wheeze.

Over the next few weeks, she had three further trips to the GP and an out-of-hours doctor but her condition did not improve.

Doctors at a London hospital finally diagnosed leukaemia after Sofia collapsed at a family party.

The family's GP practice said it was a very rare condition that was not easy to diagnose and often the initial symptoms were the same as those experienced by a lot of people a lot of the time, such as fatigue, coughs and colds.
