Warnings over DNP slimming pill

Richie Woodhall investigates the growing problem of people buying dinitrophenol (DNP) to help them get the body of their dreams.

Although banned for human consumption, DNP is easily available online - in capsule form - because it is a legitimately-used pesticide.

Although the Food Standards Agency has banned the drug from human consumption, its risks are not widely known.

Inside Out follows Birmingham teenager and fitness fanatic 'Luke' (not his real name) who is prepared to risk his life to look his best by taking the pills.

Richie introduces him to Geoff and Gina Houston, parents of student Sarah Houston, who died after taking DNP.

They want action from the government to get DNP reclassified and tighten up regulations.

Inside Out is broadcast on Monday, 3 February at 19:30 GMT on BBC One West Midlands and East Midlands. It is also available nationwide for seven days thereafter on the iPlayer.
