HIV patients 'going undiagnosed'

Inside Out investigates why thousands of people with HIV are going undiagnosed or untreated.

During the 1980s the government's Don't Die of Ignorance campaign was successful in raising public awareness of AIDS.

Reporter Jo Taylor speaks to Todd Thorpe who contracted HIV after being raped four years ago.

He is now working with the campaign group Dhiverse to raise awareness of HIV in Cambridgeshire.

Inside Out also meets Andrew (not his real name) who waited 12 years before seeking medical help because of his fear of the stigma attached to HIV.

The Terrence Higgins Trust says Britain is in danger of reverting back to a time when AIDS awareness was much lower.

Lisa Power from the Trust says their surveys show that young people are becoming increasingly less aware of HIV. One in five with the virus does not know they have it.

Inside Out is broadcast on Monday, 24 February on BBC One East and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter,
