Heath protection for South Downs National Park

Heathland areas of the South Downs National Park are to receive special conservation measures.

The national park authority has received a national lottery grant to preserve heathland which currently makes up 1% of the national park's area.

Woodland will be cut back as part of the programme, allowing heather to thrive, along with wildlife including sand lizards, natter jack toads and smooth snakes.
