Tackling extremism in the West Midlands with mentors
BBC Inside Out looks at how mentors are being used to tackle violent extremism in the West Midlands.
Government-approved mentors are being hired to de-radicalise people who have shown signs of extremism as part of a project called Channel.
The community mentors are hired by the Home Office to challenge the beliefs of people who have been deemed by the police and local authorities to be at risk of violent extremism.
They speak for the first time about their work to the Inside Out programme.
Presenter Andy Akinwolere has been granted permission by the Home Office and local authorities to speak to Sulaimaan Samuel who works with people at risk of Islamist extremism.
He also talks to another mentor called 'John' who works with far-right extremists.
Inside Out West Midlands is broadcast on BBC One on Monday 8, September at 20:00 BST and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
