West Midlands Ambulance Service reveals 'inappropriate' calls

Recordings of "inappropriate" 999 calls have been released by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

They include a drunken request for a lift and calls about pet injuries.

The ambulance service said dealing with such calls delayed operators in responding to genuine life-threatening emergencies.

Jenny Cock, in charge of the 999 call centre in Brierley Hill, said the service received up to 3,000 emergency calls a day.

These are expected to rise over Christmas and peak on New Year's Eve.
