Lung transplant patient's challenging journey
Matt Lodge from Bristol has cystic fibrosis and desperately needs a new set of lungs to save his life. The 23-year-old has been on the critical list for over two years and could die within a few months if he does not receive a lung transplant.
People with cystic fibrosis can face a wait of several years for a lung transplant operation due to a shortage of organ donors.
With one-in-three cystic fibrosis patients currently dying before they receive a transplant, Matt allowed BBC Inside Out to follow his story in the hope that it will raise awareness of the need for more organ donations.
After the disappointment of two calls when the donor lungs proved to be unsuitable, Matt received a third call-back from Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
BBC Inside Out's Matthew Hill witnessed the challenges he and his family faced during and following transplant surgery.
Consultant Dr Richard Thompson also talked about the importance of finding donor organs.
Inside Out is broadcast on BBC One West, South West and West Midlands at 19:30 GMT on Monday, 12 January and nationwide on the iPlayer for 30 days thereafter.
