Impact of migration on hospital translation costs
BBC Inside Out looks at the growing costs of translation and interpreting in NHS hospitals as a result of increased migration to Britain.
Several hospitals told the BBC that the impact of migrants who cannot speak English is a challenge for their staff, especially in acute situations.
Reporter Sarah Sturdey discovered that translation and interpreting costs in NHS hospitals in Nottingham have almost tripled whilst in Derby they have doubled in four years.
She also followed the story of Karolina Klima, a non-English speaker from Poland, whose daughter Maya was born prematurely at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
Inside Out is broadcast on Friday 6, March at 19:30 GMT on BBC One East Midlands and nationwide thereafter for 30 days on the iPlayer.
