'Debt fears' over new Manston Airport site owners

The two businessmen with a majority stake in the former Manston Airport site in Kent appear to have had significant financial difficulties at their business in the North of England.

Trevor Cartner and Chris Musgrave want to create new businesses and housing at Manston - and already own Discovery Park, the former Pfizer site in Sandwich.

But the latest available accounts for their company, Wynyard Park Limited in Billingham, show debts of over £30m for the financial year ending 2014 -- with auditors expressing "doubt about the group's ability to continue as a going concern".

A spokesman has said most of the debt has been paid off - and the company has been "a great success".

South East Today's business correspondent Mark Norman spoke to Ray Mallon, of Wynyard Park, Conservative leader of Kent County Council, Paul Carter, and Sir Roger Gale, the Conservative MP for North Thanet.
