Transplant patient appeals for more Muslim donors

A kidney patient who is waiting for a transplant has supported calls for more Muslims to consider donating their organs.

Muslims needing an organ donation, such as a new kidney or liver, wait on average a year longer than non-Muslims, which is due to a lack of donors coming forward from a matching ethnic background.

"You forget what it's like to be well," said Saddia Karim from Essex.

As Ramadan, the Islamic holy month begins, hospitals in the West Midlands are urging Muslims to think about allowing their organs to be used after their death.
