New club for Northern Soul music opens in Birmingham

A new club dedicated to the music of Northern Soul has opened in Birmingham.

Richard Priest, the man behind The Night Owl in Digbeth, said Northern Soul was "bigger than ever".

The movement in Britain exploded after the first "all-nighter" at the Wigan Casino nightclub in 1973.

It was driven by obscure tracks from the heyday of American soul between 1965 and 1971.
