Surgeons saved canoeist Etienne Stott's gold Olympic dream

Surgeons' skills allowed gold medallist Etienne Stott to fulfill his Olympic dream after a terrible shoulder injury last year.

He and his canoe slalom partner Tim Baillie crashed into an obstacle at the newly-opened Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire on 20 March 2011.

A medical illustrator has put together an animated reconstruction of the operation, cutting out the gore and the blood, for an exhibition at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.

The exhibition, in the Hunterian Museum, will be on display until the end of the year.
