Stabbed police dog Finn due back at work after 10 weeks

A police dog who was stabbed while apprehending a suspect is due to return to work after 10 weeks' recuperation.

German shepherd Finn was stabbed in the head and chest, and handler PC Dave Wardell was stabbed in the hand, in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, on 4 October.

They had been called in to apprehend a man suspected of robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint.

Finn was rushed to a vet, who performed surgery to save the dog's life.

PC Wardell said it has been a "very emotional" 10 weeks.

"Finn's swift recovery is testament to his fighting spirit and I am delighted to be returning to duty with him by my side," he said. "The fact he can return to duty and be part of the team is amazing and once again I thank everyone for their kind words and generous support. Finn has certainly enjoyed the extra attention."
