Walsall and Willenhall market traders angered by closure

Traders have said a decision to close Walsall and Willenhall markets on Wednesday will threaten their livelihoods.

Walsall Council said markets in Walsall and Willenhall would have to close due to public sector strikes.

The Conservative-controlled authority said it had to ensure the safety of shoppers and traders because officers would not be able to oversee it.

It added that traders who did open for business would risk losing their licences.

Market stallholders said the decision was "unfair" and said they hoped a solution could be found.

More than 100 traders across the two markets will be affected.
