Artificial legs made from drainpipes used to help Syrian war victims

Victims of the fighting in Syria have been fitted with artificial legs made from plastic drainpipes by an surgeon from the West Midlands.

Viquar Qurashi, who work at the Russells Hall hospital, Dudley, used his leave to go to work at a refugee camp on the Syrian border.

The drainpipe is moulded in an oven into the correct shape to fit the amputee, and a foot is added.

He has used his technique to fit limbs to more than 100 people injured in the fighting in Syria.
