New machine aids life of Birmingham asthma sufferer

Anthony McGuinness of Birmingham has had asthma all his life and struggled with everyday tasks.

But the 48-year-old said he is now "fairly confident" he can lead a more active life after being treated with a new handheld machine at Heartlands Hospital.

BBC Midlands Today's Bob Hockenhull met Dr Adel Mansur of the Severe and Brittle Asthma Unit, who said it indicates how inflamed a patients airways are enabling more specific treatment with steroids.

It has been approved for use in doctors surgeries and it is hoped it will help cut down on the need to hospitalise patients.
