Film of 1930s Saltley School life found

A reel of cine film from the 1930s showing children on camping trips has been discovered by staff at a school during preparations for its 85th anniversary.

The film, found at Birmingham's Saltley School, was discovered in the building's library and has now been transferred to DVDs for the current pupils.

The footage mainly shows pupils on camping trips in Norfolk and Suffolk, but it also shows students dancing in the school's grounds.

School librarian Tracy Hall, who discovered the film, said it would have been a "great time" to be at the school.

The school's business manager Martyn Alcott said the film demonstrated how different life had been there in the 1930s.
