Fridges 'dumped' on streets of Walsall
Hundreds of fridge freezers have been dumped on the streets of a West Midlands town because scrapyards are no longer allowed to accept them, a council has said.
Walsall Council said 114 fridges were found abandoned in July, with 170 being fly-tipped in August.
New rules from the Environment Agency state flammable insulating foam has to be removed before a fridge is taken to a tip.
The council said it believed rogue traders were stripping out the motors and copper wiring for the scrap value and fly-tipping the fridges "to save money".
