Birmingham social worker jobs are 'in demand'

The head of Birmingham City University's social worker degree course has denied the city's children's services are a "no-go area" for his students.

Ofsted have said the service could be taken over by the Department for Education if standards do not improve.

Department head Peter Hay said social workers considered Birmingham a "blot on their CV".

But Bharat Chauhan, from BCU, said: "Many of our students are interested in getting jobs and they realise Birmingham is a very challenging place to work."
