Wolverhampton City Council approves £123m budget cuts

Plans to cut £123m from Wolverhampton City Council's budget by 2016 have been approved by councillors.

The Labour-run authority said 1,400 jobs would be lost and budgets for care homes, and support for children in care would be cut.

Libraries in some parts of the city will open just 15 hours a week, and the Central Baths could be shut, it said.

The authority said that unless savings of £31m were made before 2015 it would be down to its last £620,000 and "bankrupt shortly after".
