Birmingham lab joins new cancer trial
A new clinical trial for patients with advanced lung cancer is to be launched in the summer by Cancer Research UK.
The West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory in Birmingham is one of three centres conducting tests as part of Cancer Research's Matrix trials.
Director of the unit Professor Mike Griffiths said the scheme could "look at genetic markers in the tumour and then decide which treatment is most appropriate for that patient".
Scientists at the lab said there had been a huge increase in the number of people being tested for cancer genes following recent high-profile celebrity cases.
