Birmingham Wholesale Market traders look ahead to move

Traders at one of Europe's biggest wholesale markets have said they are feeling more confident ahead of a move to a new site.

Plans to move Birmingham Wholesale Markets from Digbeth to a purpose-built site in Witton, outside the city centre, were initially met with resistance from many traders, who said they feared for their future.

They said a move in 2016 was now agreed and the site would be jointly managed by the traders.

Trader Mark Tate said the market turned over more than £250m a year and employed almost 2,000 people on site.
