Lenny Henry play gets Birmingham premiere

A play co-created by comedian Lenny Henry, which was inspired by a Birmingham record shop, has been premiered in the city.

Rudy's Rare Records was originally created as a radio play for BBC Radio 4 with writer Danny Robbins, but has been adapted for the stage.

It is being performed at Birmingham Rep.

Mr Henry said he had spent time at The Diskery in Birmingham as part of his research and had also asked staff to keep a diary of daily events at the shop.

He said the play was about music, but explored issues of racism and father-son relationships.
