Birmingham Prison drug finds almost double

The number of inmates found with drugs at Birmingham Prison has almost doubled in a year.

Seventy inmates at the privately run jail were caught last year, compared with 38 in 2013.

HMP Oakwood, meanwhile, saw almost a six-fold rise.

G4S, which runs both prisons, said the increases were as a result of better searches and controls.

There have also been smaller increases at state-run prisons in he West Midlands, such as HMP Featherstone near Wolverhampton.
