Take a deep breath: New hope for back pain sufferers
People suffering chronic back pain are being helped to avoid surgery through an intensive exercise and pain management course.
The four-week long programme is being run at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.
According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, around 1 in 3 people suffer back pain - which costs the NHS millions.
A study of the course found 60% of patients had stopped taking medication, or reduced their dosage, after nine months.
