Jaguar Land Rover in numbers

Jaguar Land Rover has overtaken Nissan to become the UK's largest manufacturer of cars.

According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, JLR produced about 500,000 vehicles in 2015 in what was a record-breaking year for the firm.

Executive director Mike Wright told BBC Midlands Today that the firm had invested heavily in recent years.

The UK car industry as a whole produced almost 1.6 million cars in 2015, up 3.9% on 2014.

Its success was largely due to sales in Europe, which more than offset a slump in China and Russia.
