Police dog named Bobby in honour of Birmingham boy

A police sniffer dog has been named after a boy from Birmingham who is fighting a brain tumour.

Bobby Humphries, who is three, visited the West Midlands force's dog training unit to meet his namesake - an eight-week-old springer spaniel.

A police officer came up with the idea after meeting Bobby's family on a hospital ward.

Bobby is facing 18 months of chemotherapy, and after meeting Bobby the puppy, he was presented with a toy dog by officers, which, unsurprisingly, has also been named Bobby.
