Tribute to Dalian Atkinson by the manager who signed him twice
Former football manager Ron Atkinson has paid tribute to player Dalian Atkinson who died after being shot with a Taser by police.
The 48-year-old died in hospital in the early hours of Monday after officers were called to an address in Telford, Shropshire.
Ron Atkinson, who twice signed his namesake, described the ex-forward as someone who "invariably had a smile on his face”.
He signed the player from Ipswich Town in 1989 when he was manager of Sheffield Wednesday and then brought him to Villa Park in 1991 from Spanish club Real Sociedad.
