Novel ways to become a literary hit outside London

Award-winning novelists including David Lodge and Jonathan Coe have spoken about how writers can be a success outside London.

Jonathan Coe, author of The Rotters' Club, which was set in Birmingham during the 1970s, said he had been inspired by London-based writers including Charles Dickens to create his own "mythology" about the city where he was born.
