Bristol-based scheme aims to cut new doctors' mistakes

The first Wednesday in August is traditionally the first day of work for thousands of newly qualified junior doctors.

Known as "Black Wednesday", it often sees a significant increase in the mortality of emergency patients.

But a shadowing scheme piloted in Bristol aims to reduce the number of mistakes by first-time doctors by as much as 50%.

BBC reporter Laura Jones spoke to Dr Rebecca Aspinall of University Hospitals, Bristol, the programme director behind the scheme.
