Cambridgeshire councillor 'confident' Northstowe will be built

Fears a large new town in Cambridgeshire, where there is a large housing need, might not be built have been dismissed by a county councillor.

A potential change of government at the next general election and delays to improvements on the A14 have been cited as causes for further delay to the development of Northstowe.

The project would be the largest new town to be built in England since Milton Keynes.

When complete it would have 10,000 new homes, a central shopping centre, community facilities, six primary schools and a secondary school.

Councillor Ian Bates has been working on the project since it began 16 years ago and said he had seen the plans and all the councils involved were on board.

He told Look East he was totally confident the new town would be built.
