Flood-hit Welney Wash road improvements to cost £5m

A flood summit has been told it will cost £5m to a raise a road in the Fens that regularly floods each winter.

The A1101 Welney Wash road that links Ely to Wisbech on the Cambridgeshire-Norfolk border has already been shut for a number of days this January, leaving drivers with a long diversion.

The summit heard local councils and business groups will be asked to contribute to the cost.
