RNLI rescues boy from strong rip current in Bude

Dramatic footage showing the rescue of a young boy, dragged from a north Cornwall beach in a strong rip current earlier this week, has been released by the RNLI.

Lifeguards on Crooklets beach in Bude heard the youngster screaming for help on Tuesday afternoon.

Lifeguard Joby Wolfenden-Brown paddled out on a rescue board and grabbed the boy.

The RNLI said the youngster was struggling and "clearly in a lot of distress by the incident".

The charity is warning people of the possible dangers of the sea.

It said 16 people drowned off the coast of Cornwall in 2013. In Devon the number of fatalities was seven.
