Plans unveiled for new west Cumbria water supply
Plans have been unveiled for a new multi-million pound project to build a new water supply through Cumbria.
United Utilities said it needed to find a new source for west Cumbria's water or it could leave 80,000 to 140,000 people without an "adequate" water supply.
The company said it needed to eventually stop using its current supply at Ennerdale Water because of its "increasingly delicate habitats".
United Utilities said one of the options was to build a new pipeline which would bring water from the existing reservoir at Thirlmere.
