Girl, 10, in plea to PM over West Cumberland Hospital worries

A 10-year-old girl has written to the prime minister over concerns for services at her local hospital in Cumbria.

Maddy Snell has called on David Cameron to keep the West Cumberland Hospital, in Whitehaven, open, prompting social media interest.

It follows a recent public meeting that saw more than 3,000 people turn out to protest at some services being moved to Carlisle and Hexham.

The health trust which runs the hospital said moving services, such as those for trauma and cardiac cases, had led to fewer deaths.
