Cumbrian artist heading to Mount Everest

A Cumbrian artist is planning to become the first artist in residence at the Base Camp of Mount Everest.

When Derek Eland, from Carlisle, travels to Everest in April he is planning to set up a "diary room" to capture the profile of the hundreds of people who pass through the camp.

He has already used the technique successfully when he was out with British troops in Afghanistan.
